Venice Architecture Biennale 2023

The opening of the 18th International Architectural Biennale in Venice took place on May 21, 2023, its main theme is “The Laboratory of the Future”. Our workshop took part in the Time-Space-Existence exhibition organized by the European Cultural Center as part of the Biennale.

The foundation of our exhibition is comprised of six new and unique projects of educational institutions. Each building has been carefully designed with considerations of functionality and aesthetics, aiming to provide a comfortable space for learning and development. All interior spaces of our schools are filled with light and air.

We believe that high-quality architecture enables the creation of opportunities for a better future for ourselves and our children. We create school classrooms as the molecules of a new life for everyone - free from barriers, limitations in space, light, sound, and language.

We are convinced that, thanks to our architecture, children and their parents will be able to communicate, interact, and embody their ideas in reality, contributing to the creation of a better world.

The opening of the 17th International Architectural Biennale in Venice took place on May 22, 2021, its main theme is “How we will live together”. Our workshop took part in the Time-Space-Existence exhibition organized by the European Cultural Center as part of the Biennale.

Our exposition is based on five of our different objects of educational institutions.

We believe that architecture is a tool that helps people unite in communities and build a dialogue about universal values. We create schools as unique spaces for meetings, interaction and learning. Schools play an important role in the lives of both children and adults. This is a place that allows people to stop from the daily rush, look around and enjoy the nature permeating the building. The spaces are filled with light and air and encourage different generations to communicate and search for new opportunities to create a safe and friendly world for all of us.

Our workshop took part in the exhibition Time Space Existence. Several projects reflecting our vision of the proposed topic were presented at the exhibition: "Free space".

The opportunity to do what you love is a dream that can fill any person's life with meaning, show him the path of development and give him a social role. The architecture of any building, private or public, can be the starting point for the realization of this dream, the start from which a person's life can find meaning. Kindergartens and schools are centers of culture and science among residential neighborhoods, the reflection of the creativity of great artists and sculptors will be able to decorate their facades, folk crafts will be revived in their educational workshops, in which from early childhood children, together with teachers, classmates, seniors and parents, will be able to get into the magical world of creativity. We know that the atmosphere of creativity will be an incentive for discoveries in educational scientific laboratories in physics, chemistry.

Venice Architecture Biennale 2016

On May 26, the Time-Space-Existence exhibition, organized by the European Cultural Center as part of the Venice Architecture Biennale 2016, opened, where our workshop took part.

The exposition of EL LISSITZKY SCHOOL, based on the implemented project of the school in mkr. Moscow, located in the Palazzo Mora.

Social architecture is shown as an architecture of opportunities and the return of culture to the typical residential environment of the former suburbs of Moscow. This project reflects the idea of the school as a multifunctional facility - not only an educational center, but also a leisure center, based on the traditions of constructivist clubs of the first third of the XX century.

The ideas of the Russian avant-garde can be traced in the external appearance of the complex. The wall exposition and layout, as well as the space-planning solution of the building and its facades are dedicated to the work of the outstanding artist and architect El Lisitsky.

One of the tasks in the design was to translate the suprematist compositions and book graphics from the plane of the book that returned from Dresden in 1967 to the Moscow architectural environment into the space of the architectural volume of the social building and its interiors, furniture and equipment. The book itself, containing ideas that have survived through time and space and finally found existence in an object in Moscow, is also present in the exhibition.

ARCH Moscow 2016

In the last weeks of May, intense work was carried out on the exposition to the ARCH of Moscow. The result pleased not only us, but also the visitors of the exhibition, including the youngest.

The models were exhibited without plexiglass domes, in order to demonstrate the accessibility of the projected social facilities. The tactility of natural materials, wood and cardboard disposes to a lively discussion, and the wall banner illustrates the main directions of the creative thought of the workshop. The exposition was awarded a diploma in the nomination Architecture and Archmarket.

Circus School project at the ACCA International Architectural Competition

The project of a circus school for 1000 students on Karetny Ryad Street, opposite the Hermitage Garden, received an incentive award at the AC-CA International Architectural Competition, taking 6th place out of several thousand participants.

The program of the competition was to develop a circus school building for novice circus performers, with a capacity of up to 1,000 students of various ages. The architecture of the new building was supposed to reflect modern design trends.

The project of the architectural workshop PROJECT-REALIZATION competently combines all the necessary functions. This is a special type of public space that unites not only future artists and teachers, but also local residents of the quarter.

Kindergartens with unlimited possibilities

Kindergartens with unlimited possibilities

In an interview on the portal of the Architectural Council of Moscow, Olga Bumagina, Chief architect and General Director of the architectural studio PROJECT-REALIZATION, told about why to work with a state order, about the cultural and architectural context, about how the new kindergarten formation differs from the old one and what separates the project from the implementation.

In an interview, Olga Bumagina gave five important tips when designing social buildings.

1. There should be a general urban planning approach. It is necessary to design a social building at the same time as a residential one. Otherwise, a large number of problems arise, which in the new areas, at least, could be avoided.

2. An architect should also develop an interior solution for standard projects. Unexpectedly for ourselves, we found out that going through all the approvals is not the main problem. The main problem is when the manager of a new garden begins to command in what color to paint the walls and which curtains to hang. All this, unfortunately, also comes out. In general, we always include interior solutions in the project, but we do not have levers of pressure on representatives of the Department of Education, and we cannot force them to follow our project.

3. Typical design may be correct as an idea, but for each situation and set of conditions, a typical project needs to be adapted. For example, we don't have the same projects. They differ in facades, entrance groups, even layouts. Regulations change almost every year, some special wishes from the customer may arise in the technical task. There must be development – otherwise it will turn out like with those projects of the 80s.

4. New functional concepts are needed for quarterly development. For example, we have already offered several options for built-in gardens on the first floors of buildings. Embeddedness requires new planning solutions. We came up with the idea of separating the sleeping and playing areas with a sliding partition and turning one into the other while awake: compactly move the beds along the walls so that there is free space in the middle. We want to go to Moscow State Expertise with this.

5. In schools, it is possible to separate the educational part from the public – concert, sports and dance halls, swimming pools, libraries, Internet clubs. We made such a project just in Zagorye – with separate entrances. Now, in the evenings and on weekends, the school will turn into a district leisure center.

The entire text of the interview is on the portal of the Architectural Council of Moscow.

Kindergarten without barriers and without extra costs

The portal of the Arch Council of Moscow published an article about the opening of a new kindergarten for 250 places on Svobody street, 63, implemented as part of the Targeted investment Program of Moscow.

A new generation kindergarten has opened in Northern Tushin, fully adapted for low-mobility groups of citizens. Olga Paperina, chief architect of the project and general director of the architectural workshop PROJECT-IMPLEMENTATION, told about how to provide a comfortable environment for the comprehensive development of all categories of children.

"We started designing educational facilities in 2009. We have set ourselves the task of changing the attitude of the Department of Education of the capital and the construction community to the type of public buildings - schools and kindergartens. We believe that these objects are not an addition to housing, but should be considered as a public building, which is either the center of residential development, or a link between blocks."
